The finished owls.

A pair of owl puppets for Wollaton Hall, Nottingham

Nottingham Museums Design Department commissioned the owls and ten other pairs of glove puppets to help tell the story of the Hall and particularly the people who lived and worked there. The puppets were all based on portraits or objects found in the Hall. The owl is part of a gilt heraldic device on the top of a 17th century pipe organ in the minstrels' gallery.
The reason for having two of each was the intention to leave the puppets out for children to play with. So each character has an understudy, in case of enforced hospitalisation

Here's another. picture

The Museum Service has made a video using the puppets and there are a few pictures of The Owl on the next page.
